Explore Skilled Trades at the Powell Library’s ‘Trades Fair’

The Powell Library is bringing hands-on learning to the Park County Fairgrounds with the ‘Trades Fair’ on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free event invites the community to explore careers in skilled trades through interactive demonstrations and exhibits.

Attendees will have the opportunity to experience a variety of trades, including electrical, plumbing, welding, carpentry, concrete work, mechanics, and construction. The event will feature exciting hands-on activities, such as sitting inside heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, testing out a CDL Simulator provided by the NWC Center for Training and Development, and watching high-voltage safety demonstrations from Garland Light & Power Co.

With a growing demand for skilled workers, the ‘Trades Fair’ aims to introduce younger generations to these career paths. “Currently, the statistics show that for every five baby boomers retiring in a skilled trade, there are only two younger workers coming in to fill those positions,” said Breanne Thiel, Senior Library Assistant at the Powell Library. “The goal of the ‘Trades Fair’ is to connect those interested in a trade with professionals in the field to help bridge that gap.”

Join us for a day of hands-on learning and career exploration!

ATTENTION: The Park County Libraries will be CLOSED Saturday, May 24th through Monday, May 26th for Memorial Day.
