We are thrilled to announce an exciting new addition coming to the Park County Libraries lineup: Little Elk’s Literacy Kits! Made possible through a generous grant from The Dorothy Louise Kyler Fund and The John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation, these kits are designed to spark creativity, foster learning, and promote early childhood literacy in our rural communities.
These kits were brought to life through the dedication and vision of Miss Joy from the Cody Teen Library. She came up with the idea to create the literacy kits, recognizing the need for engaging resources to support early literacy development in our community.
Inside every kit, families will find an array of resources to explore together, including:
- Picture Books: Delve into captivating stories filled with colorful illustrations and imaginative narratives.
- Board Books: Perfect for little hands, these sturdy books are designed to withstand plenty of page-turning excitement.
- Wonder Books: Physical books with an audio recording of the story attached to the cover. Readers can listen and follow along simultaneously, enhancing their reading experience.
- Educational Toys: Stimulate curiosity and encourage hands-on learning with educational toys that complement each kit’s theme.
- Songs and Poems: Enhance the reading experience with catchy songs and poems that reinforce key concepts and themes.
To celebrate the launch of Little Elk’s Literacy Kits, we invite families and early childhood educators to join us for an Evening Story Time and Showcase event at both the Cody Library, and the Powell Library’s temporary location at Homesteader Hall at the Park County Fairgrounds, on Tuesday, May 7th, at 5:30 p.m. Be sure to mark your calendars and come see what all the fuss is about!
The excitement doesn’t stop there! Little Elk’s Literacy Kits will be available to check out at all three Park County Library locations in Powell, Cody, and Meeteetse, ensuring that families across the county can access these invaluable resources.
