20th Anniversary of 9/11 Events

All Park County Libraries will be honoring the twentieth anniversary of 9/11, with displays and special screening of movies commemorating this tragic day in America’s history.

Cody Library

Entire Month of September 2021

· “Every Story is a Story” Display – 315 books are being used to create a large-scale model of the 7 buildings of the 2001 World Trade Center. Each wrapped book represents a story of one of the buildings.

· “September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World” – A progressive poster exhibition developed by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom.

· Interactive “Where Were You? What’s Your Story?” Display. Share your experience of that day 20 years ago and read those of others.

 

On Saturday, September 11, 2021

· 10:00 a.m. Grizzly Hall

o Watch the Anniversary in the Schools webinar program. Viewers will learn about 9/11 through personal stories from 9/11 family members, first responders, and a student on 9/11. The webinar will be interpreted in American Sign Language and captioned. An audio transcription and Spanish subtitles will also be available.

· 11:30 a.m. Grizzly Hall

o Watch the Oliver Stone film World Trade Center, starring Nicholas Cage, Michael Peña, Maria Bello, Stephen Dorff, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Rated PG-13. (128 min)

· 2:00 p.m. Grizzly Hall

o Watch the 2011 Best Picture Academy Award Nominee film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, starring Tom Hanks, Thomas Horn, Zoe Caldwell, Dennis Hearn, and Sandra Bullock. Rated PG-13. (129 min)

 

Powell Library

Friday, September 10th at 2 p.m. & Saturday, September 11th at 10 a.m. 

A movie commemorating 9/11 will be shown in the meeting room. No sign-up necessary and all ages are welcome.

Meeteetse Library

The Park County Libraries are commemorating that day with a poster exhibit from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Stop by the Meeteetse Library during September to see it. Stop in this Saturday, September 11, from 10:00-2:00 to watch the videos.

Attention Patrons: The Powell Library will be closed April 23-May 5, 2024 while we move into our temporary location in the Homesteader Building at the Park County Fairgrounds. All Park County Library System patrons can continue to place holds/request items, but please understand your hold may be delayed due to the closure. We look forward to seeing you at the fairgrounds in May.
