Meet The Author
June 20, 2022 @ 6:30 pm

Take a step back in time on June 20th at 6:30 p.m., when you meet author Hugh Grinnell at Cody Library Grizzly Hall. Mr. Hugh Grinnell, distant cousin of George Bird Grinnell, will present a 45-minute first-person presentation where he will impersonate his cousin both in costume and by describing his adventures using daily field journals, published articles, and correspondence from 1885-1927. Hugh Grinnell’s book, The Father of Glacier National Park derives its authenticity from these sources and some of Bird’s editorials over 35 years as editor of Forest and Stream sportsmen’s journal.
Hugh Grinnell is Past President of the Grinnell Family of America Genealogy Association, one of the first families in America, and is able to trace his family and that of George Bird Grinnell to their common relative, Richard Grinnell, Rhode Island, 1725, and ancestor Matthew Greenell, Rhode Island, 1631.
Reading his book and listening to his presentation, one can expect to experience the frequent discoveries of glaciers, mountain peaks, streams, and lakes never before seen by white men; encounters with Blackfeet and Kootenai Indians; hunting successes and failures; snow, ice, and wind; and why features were so-named by GBG.
