On Wednesday, October 16 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Park Ranger Todd Johnson from the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area will offer a program about the creation of the Boone and Crockett Club at the Powell Library. The club is the oldest wildlife conservation organization in North America. The Friends of the Powell Branch Library are happy to offer this program and hope you will join them in learning about this organization.
Young Adults from grades 6-12 may sign up at the Powell Library for the chance to speak with Sgt. McCaslin and SRO Carpenter from the Powell Police Department about a future career in law enforcement. The program will be held on Friday, October 11 at 1:30-3:00 in the meeting room of the library. Equipment display and an interactive active will be on hand.
September 22-28 is Banned Books Week at libraries around the country. Librarians celebrate this important week by shining a light on how censorship mars the very core of the First Amendment by taking away another person’s right to speak freely. This year’s theme, “Keep the Light On” is a perfect way to express how censorship at any level leaves us all in the dark. Stop by the Powell Branch Library to see your librarians dressed up as their favorite banned books throughout the week.
Our new Salsa Queen for Powell has been chosen! This year’s winner for our annual Salsa Contest is: Debra Santistevan. Her hot salsa was a huge hit. Thank you to all the contestants and tasters. We had so much fun chatting with everyone! A huge, “Thank you!”, to Homesteader Museum for letting us participate in the event. We had a great time and can’t wait for next year.
This year the Powell Branch Library’s annual Salsa Contest will be held during Homesteader Days on Saturday, September 14th from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Bring your mild, medium, hot, or fruit salsa to Homesteader Days at the Homesteader Museum in Powell, and get the chance to become the king or queen of salsa!
