1000 Books Before Kindergarten is part of a nationwide incentive to promote reading to babies and toddlers and encourages parent and child bonding through books.
1000 books may sound like a lot, but it is quite simple when you break it down.
1 book a night = 365 book per year = 1095 books in 3 years! (Any books work, and books can be re-read!)
How do you begin?
- Come to the library to get a free library card and a tracking sheet for your child. There is no age restriction on how old your child can be to have their own library card.
- Check out up to 30 books at a time.
- Read, read, read!
- Keep track of the books that you read to your child using the tracking sheet (Fill in one circle per book).
- Keep coming into the library to check out more books, share your progress, and to receive incentives for milestones that you reach.
