Although the schools in Powell aren’t out for summer break until Friday, the Powell Library has begun pre-registration for Summer Reading! Children ages 0-entering 5th grade are eligible for the Children’s level program and the Young Adult program includes ages entering 6th grade-17 years old. Children and Young Adult age ranges may begin pre-registration TODAY, Tuesday, May 27th. Stop by the library and sign-up for all of the amazing activities that will be happening at the library this summer.
If you search the library catalog via our website, you might now notice a difference. The search box on our website leads to the “new” WYLDCAT interface product known as Enterprise. It features some improvements including relevancy-ranked searching and a flowing “river” of book jackets, among other things.

There are lots of ways to limit your searches by checking facet options to the left of the results. The default in the search box is title, but you can drop down and see the other searching options.
Important: If it says “no copies available” in the results list, that could simply mean the item is checked out. Click on the book jacket or title for more information. If it’s checked out and you want to reserve the item, select the hold button at right. You will need to provide your library card number and PIN and then select where you want to pick up the item. (Remember that out-of-county holds cost at least $3.00 to borrow because of the cost of shipping.)
Read for prizes. Read for fun. “We want to keep kids reading every single day, on their own or with a parent,” says children’s librarian Holly Baker.
A microscope, telescope, remote control UFO and movie passes are among the items offered in the children’s library. Click here for the Kids’ Summer Reading brochure.
In the LOFT gift certificates for gas and Starbucks, Rec Center passes and a wind turbine kit will be popular prizes. “It’s about reading and having a good time,” says teen librarian Shelly Waidelich.
The Park County Library Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday, May 20, at 4:00 p.m. at the Meeteetse Branch Library which is located in the school. This is a change from the regular monthly meeting time and place.
