Carol Bell will lead our discussions. She captivates us with her knowledge and keen literary sensibility. You don’t need to be a scholar to participate, just someone who appreciates literature and film and listening to others who do too. The selections were chosen to appeal to a wide audience.

We appreciate having your email addresses and phone numbers to easily contact you, so please sign up at the front desk at the Park County Library in Cody. You will find the books and movies for the series there. For more information, follow this link: Cine of the Month Club.

Two Cody artists, Linda Burwick and Laura Miller, are displaying acrylic paintings at the Park County Library in Cody during the month of May. While their medium is the same, the subject matter differs.

Miller’s works, both acrylics and pastels, are hanging in the Biblio Bistro. She grew up in the Boston area. She studied painting at William Paterson University outside of New York City then graduated from Salem State University with a BA in 2-dimensional design. After working in Boston as a graphic designer, she went to Northern Ghana in West Africa for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer, where she met her husband, Matt, who grew up in Cody.

The inspiration of most of her paintings came from the people and places where she has lived or visited. The subjects of the paintings are from Ghana, Mali, Madagascar, Senegal, Brunei, Malaysia, and Wyoming.

Linda Burwick exhibits her finely detailed nature scenes in the main hallway of the Park County Library. “In 2008, I started my professional career when galleries took a leap of faith to represent an unknown artist. My education has not been a formal one, but one of constant observation, dedication, perseverance, and lots of trial and error.”

“While painting, I try to capture those special little moments, when the sun is just right, and the shadows are created under the trees and in the cracks of the rocks.”

Enjoy these fine artists during May!

They play Rummikub, Donna’s favorite game, with homeschoolers in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Rummikub is really gin rummy with tiles and is a popular game for children and adults alike. It’s a great family game, Johnson said. It’s good mental exercise and gives the homeschoolers a chance to socialize.

Other adults who have helped Johnson with the games include Carol Wagner, Claudine Dillman, Lynn Parker, Kaki Steves, Terri Allison, Mike Neville, and Holly Baker, children’s librarian.

Which Dewey number should we assign to it and not have it get lost in the stacks? If Walls Could Talk : An Intimate History of the Home by Lucy Worsley is one of those books.

It’s about how the rooms of a home have evolved through history along with civilization. The author is chief curator at Historic Royal Palaces, the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, etc. She was recently interviewed on the NPR program, Freshaire.

By the way, we put it in 747 (Interior Decoration). But we could have put it in 643.1 (Housing), 390.09 (Customs, etiquette), 306.85 (Family) or any of a “number” of other categories. Do you have any good ideas about where we should put this?

Look for this title in the new book section, reserve it online, or call us up if you’re interested in reading it!

They sort through and shelve many, many donations of books to sell in the Friends Store located inside the Park County Library in Cody. There is a box where you leave money to pay for the books. In turn, this money is used for various projects in the library, such as children’s programs, special educational DVDs and much more. We are so blessed to have our friends.

They give of their time. Be sure to leave money when you buy books at the store!

Many people are generous. Just recently, Harvey Lutske of Los Angeles, Calif. donated $100. He had stopped by the library and visited the Friends Store. Recently, he sent the Friends a check. Thanks, Harvey!
