Ghosts of the Green Grass, Book Release with Bud Alley, 2 p.m. Sat. Sept 9
In The Ghosts in the Green Grass Bud Alley has drawn comparisons between the fate of the 7th Cavalry commanded by General George Armstrong Custer in 1876 and his own experiences in the Vietnam War with the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Cavalry.
Bud served a year tour in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) which was created at Fort Benning in July 1965. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, a Presidential Unit Citation and Vietnamese Campaign Ribbons.
“My story is that of the parallels of Custer’s 7th Cav and my own experiences in the 7th in 1965 in the bloodiest battle of the ten year war, 17 November 1965,” Bud said.
Following his own diagnosis in 1989, Bud has become a staunch advocate for those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Bud seeks to raise public awareness regarding PTSD through his book and travels with his therapy dog, Codi.
The Ghosts in the Green Grass is autobiographical, literary and historical. His 395 page hard cover book has 10 pages of photographs, a 12 page bibliography, and an 11 page index.
A book signing and sale will follow the program. Refreshments will be provided by The Friends of the Cody Library.
