Since 2012, Smith has been directing a garbology project that involves conducting periodic waste stream audits on the campus of Northwest College. He and his students analyze a day’s worth of campus garbage and determine just how much recyclable material is being thrown into the trash, destined for the landfill.
The project serves to raise awareness about the impact of recycling at NWC and provides students with practical experience in using the scientific method. In this talk, Smith will discuss the worldwide garbage problem and report on his most recently completed garbology study.
The series is supported by the Northwest College Foundation and Park County Library Foundation. Admission will be free and open to the public. The Friends of the Cody Library will provide refreshments following the talks.
