April is National Poetry Month and the Powell Branch Library is celebrating in many different and exciting ways. A Poetry Read-Around for adults will start the fun off on Tuesday, April 13 at 6:00 p.m. The Read-Around will consist of library staff and participants reading from the poetry book, “this connection of everyone with lungs,” by Juliana Spahr. We will read a section at a time in order to enjoy the power of poetry together. If you write poetry or have a favorite poem you would like to share, bring a copy to the front desk and we’ll post them according to time and space. Let’s get poetry in public places! The children’s department will focus on poetry during storytime on Wednesday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m..
Cowboy Poetry Week is April 18-24! Ken Chrissley and friends will perform cowboy poetry on Wednesday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Powell Branch Library Meeting Room
At napowrimo.net you can participate in an annual poetry writing challenge started in 2003 by Maureen Thorson. Or go check out the Academy of American Poetry to find biographies of more than 500 poets as well as additional information about National Poetry Month!
