A noted author of adventurous tales for young readers will appear at the Cody Library Thursday, November 12, to tell how he turns his own adventures into novels. Ben Mikaelsen’s presentation, from 6:30-7:45 p.m., is full of photos, information and humor as he describes how he goes about “Finding the Heart of the Story”. Mikaelsen experienced personal challenges as a child, struggling to learn English as his second language and chafing under a rigid educational system in South American boarding schools. He is known for his meticulous research to make his books come alive, including flying to the North Pole, living among the homeless in Mexico and Africa, and going undercover with federal narcotics agents. He also rescued a black bear cub 25 years ago that remains with him today. His talk is free and open to all ages.
