Do you want to be a June Bride, were you a June bride, or know someone who was a June bride? Then you know that love is definitely in the air during June, and the Powell Branch Library is happy to announce new books for June that deal with that very subject! We’ll start with a “how-to” book on fairness in romantic partnerships, Try to See It My Way: Being Fair in Love and Marriage by Drs. Hibb and Getzen, gives an insightful look into being fair in different kinds of relationships.
A Reliable Wife: A Novel by Robert Goolrick takes us to 1907 Wisconsin where the main character, Catherine, answers an ad for “a reliable wife”, but she has plans of her own. . . .
Franz Wisner has written, How the World Makes Love: And What It Taught a Jilted Groom. This book is both humorous and tender, and is a sequel to Honeymoon with my Brother, which is being made into a movie.
Corner Shop by Roopa Farooki is a multi-generational look at a mixed-race London family who strive for love and self-fulfillment. England is also the setting for A Daughter’s Love. It is the story of Meg, Thomas Moore’s daughter, who was responsible for preserving her father’s legacy.
Love can be shown in many ways. Even companion plants get in on the feeling in the book Carrots Love Tomatoes: Secrets of Companion Planting and Successful Gardening, by Louise Riotte. We also have her older book, Roses Love Garlic.” Hopefully, one of these has sparked your interest, and we’ll see you soon! Love to you all, The Powell Branch Library.
