It was a learning experience. There were nine Cody Middle School entrants in the first ever Cody Poetry Slam sponsored by the Cody Reading Council April 20 in Grizzly Hall of the library. Fourth grade Sunset School teacher, Chad Smith, was an excellent host. Students seemed to enjoy themselves as they read their original poems. Local merchants donated great prizes. And the winners are: Jimmy Anderson, first; Chanda (Panda) Brazney, second; Maddison Gail, third; Darian Burkhart and Krista Sizemore, tied for fourth. All agree this is a worthwhile event that perhaps should be held earlier in the school year to avoid competing activities. We’d like to see some high school participation. Sharpen your pencils, poets! Visit here to see how White Mountain Library’s poetry slam made it to the big time.
