Powell Branch Library Presents “We Shall Remain” Programs!

Wyoming PBS will be airing a 5-part American Experience mini-series on Monday evenings starting April 13th, and continuing until May 11th entitled “We Shall Remain”. Its focus is Native history brought to life by key events, peoples, and stories that helped form this nation.  Powell Branch Library, in conjunction with Friends of the Powell Branch Library, is proud to present two programs that will tie-in with this mini-series. The first event will take place on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Merle Haas, a Native Storyteller from the Wind River Reservation, will be bringing her storytelling talents to us for an informative and entertaining evening. The second event will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2009  at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Rob Stothart, Assistant Professor of English at Northwest College, will be leading a “Talking Circle” with Louise Erdrich’s book, The Plague of Doves. A talking circle is a book discussion done in a different way. A talking stick is passed around the circle, and the person holding the stick at the time is the person allowed to speak. The group will be limited to 20 people, and you can sign-up at the Powell Branch Library starting on Tuesday, February 17, 2009.  The books will be available through interlibrary loan, so please sign-up early to make sure and have your copy here and read before the program. If you have any questions please contact Maggie Sullivan at the Powell Branch Library 754-8828.
