Mush! Pixie the sled dog visits Powell and Cody libraries
Jan 14th, 2009 by laura
Pixie and her owners, Harry and Lela Schlitz, mush into Wyoming next week. First, they’ll visit Powell Branch Library on Tuesday, January 20, at 3:30 p.m. and then the Park County Library Children’s Department in Cody on Wednesday, January 21, at 3:30 p.m.
Pixie is a 10-year-old Alaskan Husky who is a retired working sled dog. She was the main kennel leader in Denali National Park where she and other dogs patrolled an average of 2,100 miles per year. She retired after injuring her left back leg.
Lela Schlitz wrote a children’s book, Sled Dog of Snow Park, which is the true story of Pixie saving the lives of her musher and team while on an expedition. Lela and her husband have a business called Mountain Mushers in Park City, Montana, that works with children and adults to provide literacy-based education about dogs.
Please visit your library and meet Pixie and her humans. Bring your camera!
